(out of series) La Ricotta (321 Lindley, Film Authors)

Pasolini channels Roberto Longhi and has the film crew reproduce of Jacopo Pontormo’s 1525-8 Deposition Of Christ (church of Santa Felicita in Florence,) not only out of a taste for mannerism, but because it was painted before the Council of Trent. Like capital and Fellini movies, the council imposed ideological unity on Italy by brute force. Would make a good double feature with Birth Of A Nation.
