(out of series) Palestine 1896 (OU’s computer)

Interesting footage by an itinerant Lumier Brothers cinematograph operator, probably Jean Alexandre Louis Promio. (The date given by the Youtuber™ may well be a year early. Primo was in Jerusalem and Jaffa in April of 1897 as part of the Lunier’s colonialist project.) The actualités come from an extract of another, unidentified, documentary with a voice over and sound effects for the blind and those who really don’t know history. As usual, the with early nonfiction movies, the footage leaves torn between the master’s glance and the only moving record. would be an interesting double feature with Johan Van Der Kuken’s The Palestinians (1975.)
